In China, it is mandatory to have a face scan to receive a new SIM card

Chinese government likes face recognition technology quite a bit. The government has made it mandatory to use it for authentication in many services. Scanning is mandatory. China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology announced the new rules in September. It has been in effect since December 1. Earlier, users of the new cellular contract simply had to provide a copy of their ID card.

According to the Chinese government, the move is aimed at protecting the rights of citizens in cyberspace. Several reservations are also being expressed regarding the government's move. There are fears that the government can use this data against the country's backward ethnic minorities. The government is thought to have avoided the hassle of repeatedly identifying citizens with the move. The government will get people's data without privacy concerns.
